The One with Dance

This weekend was all about dance for me. On Friday, Mitch and I braved the cold and went to Copa for a little salsa dancing. They have free lessons at 9. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot more guys than I thought there would be in the lesson. I know males have a tendency to think dancing is emasculating, but I think it is so hot when guys can dance. I did pretty well during the lesson, but afterwards all the pros start show up, and it got a little intimidating. Several men asked me to dance and thankfully they were very nice and instructive. Mitch is a very good dancer, and she looked great and held her own with the professionals. I had a great time and will be going back soon. Plus, now I have an excuse to go buy some cute new shoes for dancing!

The next night Granola and I went to the ballet. First, we had a fabulous dinner at Louie 106. We both had spinach salads with pears, walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, and an avocado dressing. Then I had the Moraccan Spiced Pork tenderloin, and Granola had the Crunchy Trout. They were both delicious. Then we walked the few blocks to the Paramount Theatre, a really fabulous old theatre in downtown Austin, for the ballet. The performance was New World Talent, and it showcased the work of 3 up and coming choreographers in the world of modern ballet. Granola and I had completely different opinions on the performances. His favorite was the first piece, which I hated. We both enjoyed the second, and the third was my favorite. The choreographer was Thang Dao, originally from Vietnam. His piece was inspired by the Robert Frost poem Fire and Ice.
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
I just loved this piece. He used multimedia in the background, it was set to beautiful music, and it featured more traditional duets, which I love. It was a great evening and a fantastic weekend!

Salsa dancing is so sexy. I'd probably trip, just from staring at all the men:)
